Utrecht is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands, and is part of the 'Randstad' conurbation. The city is located in the middle of the country and therefore attracts a lot of employment activities. Because of the central location and the attractiveness of the housing stock in the city and the region, housing demand in this city is very high, resulting in excessive prices of owner-occupied dwellings. This causes an enormous pressure on the rented housing stock, because many households are unable to move to the owner-occupied sector.
